an Olympia Movement Jam

Fusion, 302 Columbia St. NW, Olympia, WA

Potluck afterwards at Percival Landing Park (where we'll dream into the future of the Olympia Movement Jam Collective-- which you're invite to be a part of if you aren't already!)

For those of us with chemical sensitivities, please refrain from synthetic fragrances.

A movement jam is an open space for independent (and interdependent) expression and exploration. At any moment, all participants are free to move or be still, alone or in connection with others.

The simple intention of allowing connection, healing, and fun can go a long way. No plan or anything sonically recorded needs to pre-exist. The combined beyond-words Intelligence of whatever occurs spontaneously in the space can be the "music" we move to.

Many find this to be a perfect space to align with our personal truth while connecting in a deeply embodied way with others, allowing all of our Selves to delightfully Evolve.

For a satisfying jam, many find it important to have a type of physical and emotional awareness that loud conversations, etc., can easily disrupt. That said, expressing needs related to personal space and emotional boundaries can be as “disruptive” as required.

Some types of movement practices that can work especially well at movement jams include:
--contact improvisation
--Butoh
--physical theater
--clowning
--improvised contemporary dance
--"open floor"
--just being yourself

All are invited to join an opening circle (followed by an introductory Playshop) and stay through the closing circle. These are great times to express verbal needs, ask questions, and receive encouragement. Staying through the closing circle can be very helpful, as a way of allowing the organic process of jam participation to reach optimally wholesome nourishment potential.

We are currently in the process of figuring out the best places days and times for further movement jams in Olympia, Washington!

You can participate in that process by joining the Olympia Movement answering some quick questions HERE.
